Well … What do you have to say America?

Remember when that guy said he wasn’t going to take a salary? He just accepted his second paycheck.

Remember when he said Mexico was going to pay for the wall? He has asked Congress to appropriate the $25 billion of taxpayer money to cover costs.

Remember when he said he wasn’t going to go on vacation or play golf like Obama? 5 of the last 7 weekends he went on vacation and played golf, costing taxpayers $11.1 million each time.
Remember when he said he was going to use American steel to build these dangerous pipelines? Russian steel arrived last week for the Keystone Pipeline XL.
Remember when he said he wasn’t going to cut social security and Medicare? The Republican bill does just this.
Remember when he said that nobody on his campaign had any communications with the Russian government? 7 of his people have now admitted they spoke and/or met with Russian officials…after they lied and got caught.
Remember when he said he was going to divest from his businesses? Changed his mind.
Remember when he said he was going to release his tax returns? Changed his mind.
Remember when he said he was going to drain the swamp of Washington insiders? His cabinet is filled with lobbyists, billionaires, as well as Wall Street executives, many from Goldman-Sachs. Yes, THAT Goldman-Sachs.
Remember when he said would defeat ISIS in 30 days? He doesn’t have a plan.
Remember when he said that the Obamacare replacement would cover more people at lower cost? The AHCA that the GOP and 45 are now pushing; they now admit will cover fewer people at a higher cost, after being called out by the CBO and the OMB.
If you voted for him, please hold him accountable to what he promised you – for all of our sakes.

Donuts for Dads

Sooo my son told me his school was hvn a “Donuts for Dads” event. I drove 12 hrs from Rochester to Charlotte to go w him. I get to the school & the turn out was GREAT! It put a smile on my face to see so many dad’s (predominantly black) there w their kids.

On the way to his class one of his teachers stop & ask “Are you Zacarr’s dad?” Now I’m thinkin “Here it comes.” She said “He’s a pleasure to have in class. He’s so funny! We love him.” I’m tryin to figure out WHO’S CHILD ARE YOU TLKN ABOUT? That was very pleasing to hear.

Then I walked him to his homeroom to find out this dude ran for student council! He had to make a speech yesterday. I was joking with him & said “You probably didn’t win.” He looked at me with a confidence that I’ve only seen him exhibit in sports & was like “Dad … I won.” So I decided to stick around until the teacher announced the results. This dude then messed around & WON! I felt the same joy about that as I feel when he scores a touchdown in football. It was also nice to see how social he was with ALL of his classmates. I feel like his mom & myself are raising a well rounded young man. The whole experience was extremely pleasing. Glad I came down.

Mr. Carver’s Neighborhood

Friday night I headlined a GREAT show hosted by my man, & great comic Stacey Carver! He’s a VERY funny comic & a good dude. I didn’t know how good until I was speaking with his wife about a good deed he had done earlier in the day. In addition to being a comedian he’s a high school teacher in the city of Baltimore.
Earlier in the day he was in school & it was senior inauguration. A young man Mr. Carver has a good relationship with was very dismissive about the celebration. He was dismissive about it for the wrong reasons. He didn’t want to participate because him nor his family had the resources to provide adequate clothing for the event. He also explained to Mr. Carver he didn’t invite anyone because he didn’t think they cared. Mr. Carver was taken aback by this because he has invested time & energy into this young man’s development. Without thinking about it & tells the young man “Get up!” “Yo what’s up Mr. Carver?” Stacy said it again. “GET UP! Come to the class room.” Mr. Carver said “You participating in the senior inauguration!” The young man replies “I can’t. They won’t let me because I’m not dressed for it.” MR. STACEY WINTHROP (that’s not his real middle name. Lol!) CARVER PROCEEDS TO TAKE OFF HIS SHIRT … HIS TIE … AND HIS VEST (Dude always wears a vest. We both shop at Marshall’s.) & GIVES IT TO THE YOUNG MAN! Not only does he give him the clothes off his back, he ask the young man “What size shoe do you wear? 11? Put these on. They’re a 12. Don’t scuff my Gucci’s!” Sent the young man to the celebration lookin so fresh & so clean as he sat in the class room in a tank top, pants, & socks!
This was the best thing I heard all weekend. I say this to say, if we had a few more educators like Mr. Carver on the front lines our children’s future would look way more promising. Who’s knows how this act of kindness will affect this young man. He will NEVER forget that day! That makes two of us. Having worked w children before I know the struggle. So hats off to ALL the good educators & a special thumbs up to Mr. Carver. #Salute

(Let’s see how many people share THIS! 😒😒😒)

Working with Tommy Davidson

Over the weekend I worked at Helium Comedy Club in Buffalo NY & had the pleasure of hosting for the legendary Tommy Davidson.
Tommy was one of the most down to earth big named comics I’ve worked with. I’ve seen countless productions that he’s been apart of & it’s safe to say I’m a fan of his work so working with him & getting to meet him was nothing short an honor.
My job this weekend was to host 5 shows w Mr. Davidson. I like to think I’m a solid act. I feel like I do a great job at getting the crowd ready to for the evening. Boy were they ready for Tommy! He beat the brakes of the crowds this weekend! (That means he performed exceptionally well.) Out of 5 shows I watched Mr. Davidson ALL 5 SHOWS! I was amazed that not one show did he do the same set. Every show I caught myself saying “I’ve never heard that before.” Watching him was more than entertaining. It was an education in comedy! I learned watching him this weekend. I observed his intricate bits, the set ups, the way he delivers the same punchline in 4-7 hilarious different ways, the way he’s 120% committed to every character, the suttle nuances, the tags, & the way his humor seemingly brought the room together. The part I enjoyed the most was the way he appeared to be having the time of his life on stage! A lot of comics that have been in this grind as long as him come across as jaded & angry but Tommy genuinely seemed to be having a fun! Somehow that energy radiates to the crowd. There were points in his show where he had the room in hysterics & I thought “Damn! I have a lot if work to do!”
Outside of being a great comic Tommy was a cool guy. We didn’t have tons of conversation but he didn’t appear to be against it. He had a guest with him & I didn’t want to intrude otherwise I would’ve talked with him & picked his brain down to the bone! I love getting knowledge (jewels) from veteran comics! The coolest interaction we had was when the club’s GM told myself & the feature comic (Brian Herburger) we couldn’t sell our merchandise unless it was ok with Tommy. He was all for it. I explained how some headliners don’t want anyone else on the show selling anything. Tommy said “F**k them dudes! That ain’t me! Sell ya sh*t!”
If you haven’t seen Mr. Davidson I highly recommend you do so! If you wanna see when he’s going to be in your area you can find his tour schedule on tommycat.net.
Hopefully our paths well meet again.

Road to Success

I’ve been watching VH1’s Behind the Music today & I’ve noticed there’s a common thread that runs thru all these artist that have succeeded. They’ve all made a conscious decision to WIN! Coupled with an uncanny will, opportunity, & a little luck they’ve achieved stardom & success.
I see a lot of me in them but I also see I’m missing an element or two. Crucial elements. It doesn’t seem to be about talent. I’m sure I’m talented enough. For you to succeed on a global level it appears as though you hv to be an exceptional talent (I’m an decent comic) and/or be willing to die (or be extremely uncomfortable) for your cause.
One of my problems is as soon as I start pushing to the point of discomfort I stop. I stop & I fall back to a level of familiarity. It’s possible to succeed like that in the event the stars are lined up & the universe receives me in the moment of my push but by me not pushing constantly, I significantly decrease my chances.
The road to success comes with tons of road blocks & pitfalls. It’s often congested & has little to no reward in sight. The uncertainty scares me. I used to think it was the option of failure but I believe it’s the uncertainty. I’m an intelligent person. I’m savvy & I can motivate others. However there are times I can’t seem to motivate myself. My mother used to tell me I give things a half hearted effort because I was “afraid of success.” It used to sound nonsensical to me but now I’m being to understand.
To be a success one has to target an audience & go at them with a deadly obsession. I believe you have to open your life, sometimes your soul, & show the world your talent & your struggle. Those that identify with you will be the ones that push you to the top. With that said … DON’T STOP PUSHING! Your gonna be uncomfortable. You’re gonna wanna stop! You WILL contemplate giving up. But if you truly believe your mission is worth it … DON’T STOP PUSHING!
